New Guildmaster in ESO
I am a very new user to MMOs, at least at the level that I'm wanting to be now. I have played games like Runescape, AQ, and Last Chaos, however I never had really any friends who played the games and never quite got to the level of gameplay that I would need to be at in order to join a guild, let alone start one. Recently, I purchased ESO (Elder Scrolls Online) and I love the game. I wanted to create a guild that would be used to teach new users, go adventuring with friends, go through dungeons, and even play some non-competitive PvP games and Raids.
The problem I've come across is... I'm a noob. I don't know all of the technical terminology, although I am learning as time goes on. I'm trying to get this started and do more of a "learn as I go" thing. I was wondering if anyone would be willing to email or PM back and forth and teach me a little bit about all of the features that go along with Guilds and being a guildmaster.
Before anyone comments negatively, I know I'm totally not ready for being a legit guildmaster. I'm planning on starting with other low level players and slowly building a foundation and learning all of the aspects of being in a guild. Then we will expand and recruit and become a legitimate guild. I am eager to learn, and am open to any suggestions. I mainly want people to explain to me how to work the different tools that are available on this site, such as "Rapid Raid" and other things like that. If you would like to email me, my email is MichaelVBresette@gmail.com. All spam and bull $h** emails will be ignored and added to a spam filter. I don't play games and I know my way around a computer so don't try me.
I look forward to learning about what it is to be a guildmaster and to really get into MMOs for the first time!! Thanks everyone in advance for any help you offer!
Hi there.
Guild leading and guilds in MMOs is a bit like starting or running a business. Depends a lot on what MMO/Business it is and what you want to do. ESO is Unique among todays MMOs in several aspects. Guilds have many purposes and focuses. Since you can join up to 5 guilds, it is important if you want to lead a guild, that you have a vision, about what kind of guild you want to build.
ESO took all the best features from all kinds of MMOs and created a "new" type of MMO. For example, "level", is neither the goal, or even the main importance. It's secondary. Tamriel is designed to be a living, evolving world, which is totally player driven, where they add "content" every 4-6 weeks + adding, balancing, fixing and expanding all areas of the world.
"Normal" expansions in MMO is the end game. Tamriel has high level game. Tough one!! But a level 33 has just as much to do as a High rank player. There are mechanics that prevents "farming", "grinding" and any repetitive play-style, if you do not know a specific "route" to "grind" or farm. ESO is also build to never make old content outdated, which gives you a wide range of players to choose from. New, "older" or current players, have the same choices and paths to choose from since ESO have no real end game and expands instead of adding "expansions". Level 15 - 4 man dungeons are always as challenging as level 50 - 4 man dungeons.
ESO is driven by players choices, when it comes to pretty much anything, including their "class", economy and guild types. There are a few main kinds of guilds + a few who got invented already.
- PvE elite raid guild - Focus on the hardest content that gives the best rewards
- PvP guilds - Focus on the conflict in Tamriel, which is the war in Cyrodiil. This is not mainstream PvP. Its warefare. 200 players around you.
- Trade guilds - This guild only have 1 purpose, 500 active players who sells and buys in the guild store. No guild chat to speak of.
- RP guilds - Wide range of, High elf, Vampire or Werewolf only guild. The sky is the limit.
- Traditional game play guilds - Which sounds like what you want to start. Play the game, with no specific goal.
- Trade skill guilds. Trade skills is something everyone can do, but takes time, effort and dedication to master.
- Social guilds - Real life or friends from other games, chat channel.
The list goes on. It is up to you to decide.
As for guild leading, your homepage is a good place to start. It should reflect your guilds image. Who you are as a guild. The homepage is an excellent way to recruit, communicate and share information within the guild.
MMO is sort of like real life. All kinds of "people". Its very easy to invite players, but hard to get the "right" one. Since pretty much everyone has their own interests. Best advice I can give is to start playing, group with people and invite those you like to group with.
Or maybe you want a big guild with lots of players....just like a business, its up to you. Guild leading as well. You are the boss. Why would people want to "work" for you, even if that's not the case, the similarities are extremely close.
As for rapid raid, it's use are for raids and a system who gets loot. In ESO, loot is personal, so that part is not needed in that sense. Calender has something called "events", which are more used for "raids" in ESO. Rapid raid can have other uses, depends on what you want to use it for.
Take a look at our site, and you get a view of one type, of many guilds.

As for advice about guild leading. Drive! And a big passion for the game.
Accept that things will not always go great, even if you do everything "right". I think the best way to learn "guild leading", is to do it! Run smack into walls of problems and solve them. Even if its a game, you are dealing with people, and even good people can be twats! As well as many MMO players have close friends or even a wife/husband, they met in game.
I wish you good luck!
Khajiit could only add this:
Do not fear starting a guild. This one started its guild way back when ESO was announced, while being a complete noob to leading a guild. You will need some time to find the right persons to be officers, but when you do, you'll get good help from them.
Play the game the way you enjoy it, and eventually, in time you will attract people with the same mindset.
